chapter 6--Plants Makes Food

PLANTS MAKE FOOD
KEY WORDS
Leaflets
producers
sugar
Photosynthesis
glucose
starch
Carbon dioxide
Chlorophyll
pigment
stomata
sunlight

Define the terms
1.  Germination: It is the process by which a seed starts growing or developing into a new plant.

Lab experiment

Colour change observed in the leaf
Observation
The leaf turned blue black after putting few drops of iodine
Conclusion
The leaf contains starch

Question and Answers

Q-1 What is Photosynthesis?
Ans:Related image

Photosynthesis is the process in which a plant converts solar energy into useful chemical energy.
. Carbon dioxide + Water (in the presence of sunlight  and chlorophyll)

Gives ---------   Oxygen + Glucose

Q-2 Which three important things are required by the plants to make food?
Ans: Show flow chart on page 4 of TM

Q-3 List the factors that influence the rate of photosynthesis in plants.
Ans- 3 Factors affecting rate of photosynthesis in plants are:
1.    Sunlight
2.    Water
3.    Carbon dioxide in the air.

Q-4 Explain the statement: Water is a key component for the process of photosynthesis.
Ans: Without any of the component (water, carbon dioxide and sunlight) plant will be unable to make its food and cannot survive. So water is a key component for the process of photosynthesis.

Q-5 Little plants find it difficult to grow in rainforests. Give Reason.
Ans: As  tall trees are found in abundance in rainforests,  little plants can hardly receive sunlight for photosynthesis.

Q-6 If we find a way to keep stomata open at night, would that lead to higher rate of photosynthesis?

Ans: No, even if we find a way to keep stomata open at night, it would not lead to higher rate of photosynthesis in plants
as plants require sunlight for photosynthesis which is not available at night.
