The Indian Weavers a.What are the weavers weaving at dawn? A. The weavers are weaving a blue garment for a new born child at dawn. b. Describe the garment that the weavers weave at night. A. The weavers weave a bright and colourful garment like the plumes of a peacock. They weave the marriage veil of a queen. c. Why are the weavers so serious at moonlight? A.The weavers are serious at night for they weave the shroud of a dead man. d. Write about the mood of the weavers from dawn till dusk. Does this have anything to do with the garments that they are weaving? A.The weavers are happy at dawn, their mood is energetic and enthusiastic at night but they become calm and serious. e. Bhagiratha and the Story of Ganga Please refer to the text for  questions: a) There was a fierce battle between the asuras and the gods. The asuras hid in the waters of the ocean during the day and came out at night and attacked the gods. The gods went to Agastya seeking his help. The sage sucked in his breath and drank the water from the ocean till it became a dry bed. The asuras had no hiding place and they were defeated by the gods. b) King Sagara was grief stricken because his sons were burnt to ashes by one look from Sage Kapila’s eyes. c) Ganga was unwilling to come down to Earth as she was insolent and did not want to leave heaven. d) On Earth, Ganga flowed joyously and ceaselessly. Her rippling water flowed over plains and danced over cliffs. Her water filled the empty ocean and there was water on earth.

One day when the poet woke up early and found dew on buttercups, his lazy shadow had stayed at home and was fast asleep. d. “And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.” Why does the poet say this?
