Bhagiratha and the Story of Ganga Please refer to the text for questions: a) There was a fierce battle between the asuras and the gods. The asuras hid in the waters of the ocean during the day and came out at night and attacked the gods. The gods went to Agastya seeking his help. The sage sucked in his breath and drank the water from the ocean till it became a dry bed. The asuras had no hiding place and they were defeated by the gods. b) King Sagara was grief stricken because his sons were burnt to ashes by one look from Sage Kapila’s eyes. c) Ganga was unwilling to come down to Earth as she was insolent and did not want to leave heaven. d) On Earth, Ganga flowed joyously and ceaselessly. Her rippling water flowed over plains and danced over cliffs. Her water filled the empty ocean and there was water on earth.
